Sujith Kumar S

Operations Manager

Occupational Training Institute (OTI) Oman

21 Years, High-Risk Industries, and a Leadership Philosophy That Extends Beyond the Workplace

How Sujith Kumar S built a career where operational excellence, people development, and community responsibility move together

In industries where risk is measured not just in numbers but in lives, leadership is often tested under pressure. Projects must be delivered, operations must remain compliant, and teams must perform in environments where there is little room for error.

For Sujith Kumar S, leadership has never been defined solely by what happens on a project site. Over a career spanning more than 21 years across oil & gas, infrastructure, power, construction, and industrial services, he has consistently demonstrated that the true measure of leadership lies in the ability to influence people, strengthen organizations, and contribute beyond formal responsibilities.

His journey began in India in 2003 as an HSE Officer with Process Control Technologies, supporting projects for major industrial clients including Kochi Refineries and Bharat Petroleum. Working in environments involving construction, mechanical operations, environmental safety, permit-to-work systems, and hazard management, he developed a practical understanding of workplace safety long before he entered senior leadership roles.

A few years later, he expanded his experience with Masters Construction, where he continued building expertise in workforce welfare, inspections, risk assessments, and policy implementation. These early assignments provided something that would remain central throughout his career: a deep appreciation for the people behind every operation.

The turning point came when Sujith moved to Oman and entered the highly demanding oil and gas sector. Beginning with Al Hassan Engineering's Barkha Power Plant project and later joining Al-Ghalbi International Engineering & Contracting, he took on increasingly complex responsibilities across pipeline integrity projects, maintenance operations, and critical infrastructure environments.

His performance earned him recognition as a PDO-approved Competent HSE Professional, a distinction reserved for professionals trusted to operate within some of Oman's most critical energy operations. Working across pipeline projects, integrity management programs, industrial maintenance activities, and high-risk operational environments, he developed expertise that extended beyond compliance into strategic risk management and operational assurance.

"Leadership is proven where responsibility extends beyond your role."

— Sujith Kumar S

In 2013, Sujith joined Arabian Industries Technical Support (AITS), beginning what would become a decade-long chapter of leadership and influence. Rising to the role of HSSE Manager, he oversaw safety systems across a diverse portfolio that included oil and gas facilities, power plant shutdowns, valve manufacturing, wellhead maintenance, rig operations, facility management, electrical testing, fabrication services, and major PDO projects.

The breadth of these operations demanded more than technical knowledge. It required the ability to align teams, contractors, management, and clients around a shared commitment to safety and performance. Throughout this period, Sujith played a central role in developing management systems, conducting audits, leading investigations, mentoring teams, and strengthening HSSE cultures across complex operational environments.

His experience later expanded into corporate leadership when he assumed the position of Corporate HSE Manager at Anwar Fahud Projects. Here, his focus moved increasingly toward governance, strategy, and organizational alignment. From shaping company-wide HSE management systems and tendering frameworks to advising senior management on compliance, risk, and operational planning, his responsibilities reflected the evolution from safety practitioner to business leader.

Today, as Operations Manager at Occupational Training Institute (OTI) Oman, Sujith's leadership extends well beyond traditional HSSE functions. Responsible for business alignment, team development, training delivery, operational performance, and organizational growth, he works at the intersection of capability building and business excellence. His role involves strengthening partnerships, supporting revenue growth, developing training programs, mentoring teams, and ensuring that learning translates into measurable organizational value.

Yet perhaps the most distinctive chapter of his journey exists outside corporate titles altogether.

For more than six years, Sujith has actively contributed to the governance and development of Indian School Al Maabela in Oman. As a School Management Committee member and later as President, he helped support an educational community serving thousands of students and hundreds of staff members from diverse backgrounds. Alongside this, he has continued contributing to HSE task forces and community organizations, applying the same principles of responsibility, accountability, and service that have defined his professional career.

This combination of operational leadership and community involvement reflects a philosophy rarely seen in practice. For Sujith, leadership is not something confined to a designation, a department, or a project. It is a responsibility that scales wherever people depend on systems, decisions, and guidance.

Because true leadership is not measured by the authority a person holds. It is measured by the impact they create long after their formal role ends.
